History

Towards the end of the nineteenth century many brewery-owned malthouses were closed down. The newly created trading malthouses then covered the malt requirement of breweries. The BAMBERGER MÄLZEREI was also founded in this period in 1888. The floor malthouse with an annual output of approx. 3,000 tonnes was put into operation in the year 1889. Customers were large and smaller breweries as well as families which held the licence to brew beer at home in a more local area around the maltings.

The great demand for high-quality malts led to the foundation of our subsidiary company, DONAU MALZ in 1974, with its malting plant in Neuburg on the Donau, Germany, which supplements Bamberg as a location. In the early nineties the capacity of DONAU MALZ was increased to 45,000 metric tons per year by erecting a highly modern tower malting. The high quality brewing malts from the BAMBERGERGER MÄLZEREI and DONAU MALZ are today symbols of quality for both the breweries in Germany and all over the world. The total annual output amounts to 85,000 metric tons.
